Things are already starting to heat up in the Lowcountry and there are an abundance of great events and activities to keep you on the move.
The ever famous International Spoleto Festival USA kicks off at the end of this month! This amazing festival takes place the last week in May and first 2 weeks in June. For specific event listings and additional details, you can visit their website at www.SpoletoUSA.org. At valued prices, you can view local artist performances and demonstrations through Piccolo Spoleto. I have mentioned it before and will say it again... the Spoleto Finale is one of my all-time favorite events to attend in Charleston. Of course it may be just me, but I love bringing a picnic lunch, walking the Middleton Gardens and lounging to the Spoleto Orchestra culminating with an impressive fireworks display. It's a great time!
But the fun doesn't stop there! The annual Charleston Cinco de Mayo Festival takes place every year downtown and what a fiesta it is! Grab your sombrero and a margarita and salsa the night away. The fun and entertaining Greek Festival also occurs every May and is filled with authentic Greek food, folk dance, live music and traditional celebrations. And then there's the North Charleston Art Festival full of high quality entertainment, exhibits and programs. The Charleston Tea Plantation also puts on their annual First Flush Festival with local bands, food and of course... tea!
May is the time of year when everyone is itching to get outside and celebrate with festivals and fiestas! And before that scorching summer heat kicks in, it's becomes the best time to get out and experience some of the great Charleston May events! I love this time of year!
